RULE 2.41(3): THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES IN THE VARIOUS STAGES OF
RECLAMATION (BACKFILLED, GRADED, TOPSOIL REPLACED, REVEGETATED).
As stated above, about 2.25 acres have been seeded. There is about
1 additional acre involved in the backfilling operations to allow
shifting of the road. No other land is involved in reclamation at this
time.
RULE 2.41(4): THE SPECIES OF VEGETATION PLANTED, THE LOCATIONS AND
APPROXIMATE DATES OF PLANTING.
The ditch slopes and the highway slopes were seeded with the
following mixture.
SPECIES RATE (LBS./ACRE)
INTERMEDIATE WHEATGRASS 12
PUBESCENT WHEATGRASS 12
CRESTED WHEATGRASS, FAIRWAY 4
SAND DROPSEED 0.75
YELLOW SWEETCLOVER (INNOCULATED) 2
This mixture was used by agreement with the ditch company and is
not very different from what the highway department used on the
cutslopes of Academy Boulevard. Many of these species have already been
shown to be successful on the roadsides.
Planting occurred on April 19, 1985.
RULE 2.41(5): THE TYPE AND APPROXIMATE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC
MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND LOCATION OF USE.
No fertilizer was used on this planting because of a strong history
of the soils that were placed on the slopes producing large quantities
of weeds. Fertilizer would only boost the weed growth and not provide
any significant help to the desirable species. A fall application of
nitrogen and phosphorous will be applied. This will aid in the
development of the root systems of the desirable species and thereby
boost their growth the next year.
RULE 2.41(6): AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION EFFORTS, AND
IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT NARRATIVE ON THE
SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCH FAILURE.
Insufficient time has passed on the reclamation work to enable an
assessment of the reclamation success. However, it can be said that
late April rains seemed to provide a large boost to the seedlings.
Germination rates appear to be quite high.
2
