CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1985 ANNUAL REPORT FOR:
SAND PIT
PERMIT NUMBER: 77-213
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 2, 1985
SUMMARY: During the past year few on the ground changes occurred at
this operation. In part this is due to the fact that the operation is
nearing the end of its useful life. However, there were some changes in
permitting that will have significant effects on the last few years of
this operation and, even more importantly, far reaching changes in the
eventual utility of this land.
RULE 2.4I(1): LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
During the 1984 permit year, about 2 acres of the operation were
actually affected by extraction activities. However, as has been true
in the past, most of the permitted land is affected in one way or
another. Most of the extraction occurred on the west and south sides.
Some material was derived from the excavation of the bench on the north
side of pit where the new location for the irrigation ditch will be
established in the near future.
RULE 2.41(2): LOCATIONS AND NUMBER OF ACRES RECLAIP1ED FOR THAT YEAR.
Little land has been reclaimed in the past year, but it is
considerably more than has been reclaimed in previous years. During the
winter about one acre was backfilled along the highway slope where
runoff from the highway had produced gullies. The gullies were filled
and the area reseeded. However, additional efforts may be needed on the
highway to preven[ the redevelopment of gullies in the future.
Excavation was initiated and completed on the new ditch route along
the north side of the pit. The slopes were graded to a 2.5:1 and
topsoiled. They were then seeded in compliance with an agreement with
the ditch company. This reclamation work involved approximately 1.25
acres. Therefore, a [otal of about 2.25 acres were graded and seeded in
the past year.
Additionally, backfill was being hauled into the pit area in order
to produce a suitable slope and platform [o move the access road
slightly southward to make room for the irrigation ditch. This fill
material consisted of excavated construction materials (soil, subsoil,
concrete, etc.).
