1 for 35.94 g/m2 and 13.5`Yo of total production, while all perennial grasses accounted
for 19.0% of total production. Chorispora tenet/a represented 90.64 g/mz total
' production. Six annual forbs (including Chorispora tenella) produced 102.38 g/mz to
represent 38.6% of the total herbaceous production. Table 22 contains herbaceous
production results for this treatment.
Woody Plant Density and Dimensions
' Atriplex confertifolia was the only woody plant species represented on this plot. Four
individuals were counted for a density of 58/acre. The largest woody plant was an
' Atriplex confertifolia individual measuring 49 cm high and 84 cm in diameter. This
was the smallest woody plant overall in the maximum dimension category in the test
plots.
species Diversity
' Four lifeforms were represented on this treatment plot. Perennial and annual grasses
were represented by three and one species respectively, biennial forbs had one species,
and annual forbs had five species. Of these lifeforms, those representing greater than
three percent relative cover included perennial grasses (two species), annual grasses
(one species), and annual forbs (one species).
3.5 North Area
' Cover
' Vegetation cover accounted for 34.8% in this area. Graminoid species accounted for
28.4% mean cover, while forbs were represented by 6.43'o mean cover. No woody
species were encountered in the North Area cover sampling. Cryptogams accounted
for 0.4% ground cover. Litter provided 24.4% total cover, rock 0.8% ground cover,
and bare ground 39.6%. Cover results for the North Area are found in Table 23.
Four grass species were encountered in the North Area cover sampling. Bromus
japonicas/tectorumdominated with 20.8% mean cover (56.5% relative cover).
Agropyron cristatum was second in dominance, and comprised 6.4% mean cover and
22.3% relative cover. Agropyron smithii accounted for 0.84'o mean cover (2.2%
relative cover) while Elymus junceus comprised 0.4% mean cover and 1.1 % relative
cover. Forbs were represented by two species, Dt:scurainia Sophia and Chorispora
tenella with 3.6% mean cover (9.8% relative cover) and 2.8% mean cover (8.2%
relative cover) respectively.
1
' 41
