3.1.3 Test Plot 3

Test Plot 3 is located on the northwest facing slope of the Roadside RDA near the mid-
point of the slope face. It is bounded on the west by the west facing slope of the RDA,
' on the north and east by the Roadside Preparation Plant and Mine Storage Area, and on
the south by the top of the RDA. Test Plot 3 is not fenced, but is identified by
perimeter posts and signs to prevent disturbance and inwsion. There are three soil
treatment depths represented in Test Plot 3; 12" 6", and 24" (from northeast to
southwest). Each treatment depth plot is 20 feet wide by 150 feet long. The
predominant aspect of the test plot is north-northwest, and the prevailing grade is very
steep, averaging 20 degrees. Prevailing wind direction appeared to be from the north,
based on field observation. Figures 12-14 provide photographs of the Test Plot 3
' treatment plots.
3.1.4 North Area
' The North Area is located on the west facing slope of the Roadside RDA 25 meters
north of the northeast corner of Test Plot 2 and 10 meters downslope, near the mid-
, point of the slope face. It is bounded on the west by the permit boundary and I-70, on
the north and south by different slope faces of the RDA, and on the east by the top of
' the RDA. The North Area is not fenced, nor otherwise identified. The location
selected approximates the location sampled in 1986 (WRDC, 1986). There is one soil
treatment depth represented in the North Area; six inches. The North Area was
considered to encompass an area equivalent to one soil depth treatment plot (20 feet
' wide by 150 feet long). The predominant aspect of the test plot is west, and the
prevailing grade is very steep, averaging 24 degrees. Figure 15 is a photograph of the
' North Area.
3.1.5 South Area
'
The South Area is located on the west facing slope of the Roadside RDA 25 meters
south of the southeast corner of Test Plot 2 and 10 meters downslope, near the mid-
' point of the slope face. It is bounded on the west by the permit boundary and I-70, on
the north and south by different slope faces of the RDA, and on the east by the top of
the RDA. The South Area is not fenced, nor otherwise identified. The location
' selected approximates the location sampled in 1986 (WRDC, 1986). There is one soil
treatment depth represented in the South Area; siz inches. The South Area was
wnsidered to encompass an area equivalent to one soil depth treatment plot (20 feet
wide by 150 feet long). The predominant aspect of the test plot is west, and the
prevailing grade is very steep, averaging 24 degrees. Figure 16 is a photograph of the
' South Area.
22
