w
Vegetation Survey

The vegetation survey was conducted by Warren Keammerer,
Ph.d, on July 31, 1990. The results of that survey (Appendix A).
indicate that total cover of the reclaimed areas of the Bourg Mine
was 68.1$. The area most recently seeded had a total cover of
66.86$. These values are significantly higher than the 20~ cover
required by the permit. The reduction in total cover during the
past year is the result of decomposition of the mulch. This is
evidenced in the reduction of the Litter/Rock cover. Walden Coal
is encouraged by the significant increase in perennial grass and
shrub cover and the coincident reduction in annual forb cover. It
is Walden Coal's assessment that the revegetation effort is
progressing extraordinarily well.
Hydrologic Survey
Well depths were measured and water samples were collected on
May 13 and July 30, 1990. The results of those samples are
attached (Appendix B). There is no indication that the
reclamation activities at the Bourg Mine have had any adverse
impact on the hydrology of the area.
Conclusions
The inspections which were conducted and the data which was
collected during 1990 indicate that the reclamation done at the
Bourg Mine has not only met but surpassed the requirements of
Walden Coal Company's permit and the Act.
