Mr. Jim Lunan
(C) The Divisio
which reflect all
monitoring system
occurred at Senec
application shoul
7-2 in the permit

-2-
July 28, 1986
n requests that Peabody submit 3 copies of Exhibit 7-2
modifications and changes to the hydrologic
(wells, springs, ponds and surface sites) which have
a II. This map, which will be placed in the permit
d be certified and will replace the original Exhibit
application.
The Division is concerned about the addition of total dissolved solids
to the surface water system in Twentymile Park from coal mines in the
area. Each mine which may be adding dissolved constituents to the
surface water system of Twentymile Park needs to accurately quantify
its impacts to this system. The Division feels that the monitoring
program described in the June 25, 1986 submittal does not fully address
this concern. Therefore, the Division recommends Peabody implement the
following revision to the hydrologic monitoring program at the Seneca
II mine this summer:
Spoils Spring No. 1 ("004 Spring"), when "Cow Camp
Creek" is flowing below surface station SW-S2-6,
should be monitored biweekly for flow and field
parameters (temperature, pH, and specific
conductivity).
In addition, site SW-S2-6 should be monitored for
flow and field parameters immediately before or
after the measurements are made at Spoils Spring
No. 1 ("004 Spring"). In late June, Spoils Spring
~ No. 1 ("004 Spring") should be sampled for full
suite ground water quality parameters.
During periods when "Cow Camp Creek" is not flowing
below surface station SW-S2-6, monitoring of Spoils
Spring No. 1 ("004 Spring") should he monitored
monthly for discharge, temperature, specific
conductivity and pH.
This monitoring schedule is the same as that proposed in the Division's
April 24, 1986 correspondence with the exception of the monthly
requirement for Spoils Spring No. 1 when "Cow Camp Creek" is not
flowing below SW-S2-6.
Surface Water
The Peabody responses to comments 1 through 7 and 9 satisfy the Division's
concerns.
