• 1997 Annual Hydrologic Report
Page 9
-Estimated equilibrium moisture of 4.5%
-Measured raw coal tons of 57,414 for the Roadside South Portals and 404,366
for the Roadside North with an estimated moisture of 8 and 7% respectively.
-Measured clean coal tons of 261,350 with an estimated moisture of 9.1
-Estimated refuse tons of 200,430 with an estimated moisture of 18%
The moisture added during mining calculates out to be 2.90 million gallons and the
moisture added during cleaning calculates out to be 6.10 million gallons. The metered
mine water into the plant was short due to meter problems and mine and domestic
water volumes for the plant are estimates.
Water was used for as the primary means of dust control on the surface and
underground roads during the Year. Magnesium chloride and calcium chloride were
used on roads, both surface and underground, to reduce the manpower requirements
for keeping the roads damp. Between the two mines approximately 7200 gallons of
water per day, 3 days per week were used. Usage on the surface roads was
approximately 12,000 gallons of water per day, 6 days per week, 75% of the Year.
Water for the surface roads was taken from an approved point of diversion in the
Highline canal.
A summary of the estimated consumptive use of water is as follows:
Total Gallons/ Gallons/
Source Gallons raw ton clean ton
Domestic
Surface Facilities 1,500,000 3.2 5.7
Preparation Plant 5,059,000 11.0 19.4
Mine
Mining 2,900,000 6.3 11.1
Preparation Plant 6,100,000 13.2 23.3
Underground Roads 1,123,000 2.4 4.3
Highline Canal
Surface Roads 2,808.000 6_1 10.7
TOTAL 19,490,000 42.2 74.5
