It was the opinion of [he supervisors present that we would
not recommend planting sand sagebrush. With the amount of sand sage in the
area we are of the opinion that within a few years it will be present in a
field without i[ being planted.
For livestock grazing, except on critical wildlife areas, we suggest controi-
iing sand sagebrush. Brush takes up soil moisture and reduces grass yields
Sand sagebrush provides little or no forage for cattle and only small amounts
for antelope. By removing the brush the grass has an ooportuni[y to increase,
providing more forage fcr livestock. It costs from $4.00 per acre up to
$20,00 per acre to spray brush. The average is about $8.00 per acre.
We feel that a better environment can be created for livestock by planting an
adapted grass or grasses.
Sincerely,
~r
Marc Sirios, President
Board of Supervisors
MS/ljg
CONSERVA 7~ON - DE VELOPMEN7 SELF-GOVERNAAEN7
