Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
May 14, 1992
Page 2
stations, designated RS-1 through RS-6, and ten ground water
monitoring well locations, designated D87-24, M-1, M-2, M-4, and M-
6 through M-11 (Figure 1). In addition to the surface and ground
water monitoring points, three lysimeter clusters have been
installed in the vicinity of the collection pond. The positions
and designations of the lysimeters are shown in Figure 2.
The well water samples and the surface water sample at RS-1 were
collected according to the procedures identified in the Protocols
by Halepaska and Associates, Inc. personnel during the period April
21 through April 24, 1992. Additional water samples were collected
at the upper and lower tailings impoundments, collection pond, and
in the collection pond leak detection system. These samples are
labelled accordingly on the attached analysis report. No samples
were obtained from the lysimeters, due to the absence of
collectible fluid in the lysimeters.
The other surface water gaging stations (RS-2 through RS-5) were
sampled the following week, on April 30, 1992. Those analytical
results have not yet been reported to BMG by the laboratory, but
will be forwarded to you as soon as they are available.
The samples were submitted for analyses of the water quality
parameters shown in Table 1. Sample collection, handling and
analysis proceeded in accordance with the Protocols. A copy of the
report prepared by Accu-Labs Research, Inc. is enclosed as Appendix
A.
Field quality control was instituted with the collection of a field
duplicate, field blank and rinse blank, to evaluate analytical and
sample handling techniques. The sample identified as 90-224 is a
duplicate sample of D87-24. The sample identified as BMLD-1 is a
field blank consisting of onsite laboratory-provided de-ionized,
distilled water. The sample, identified as BFRB, is a rinse blank
of the barrel filter used in filtering field samples.
Should you have any questions regarding this information, please
feel free to give us a call.
Yours truly,
L%/~ i~~~'~'
Bruce A.
