• 4.3.2 Production Wells
Injection and recovery from wells 1A-4H1 and 1A-5HR, for cavity #1A was started in
March of 1998. This new cavity responded well to initial mining, and plant production
correspondingly increased. No chloride contamination has been detected in either
cavity #1A or cavity #3A. Slight chloride influx has been detected in cavity #4. This
influx is easily controlled with the dilution created during plant operation.
A record of mud utilized, per BLM and EPA permit requirements, to maintain a mud
pack in the annulus of the production wells, is shown on Table 4-2. In 1998, injection
well 1A-4H1 was cemented using a DV tool to help in bringing cement to the surface.
• All active production wells were cemented to surface in 1998 and in the future will
require minimal cement to maintain mud to surface.
4.3.3 Monitoring Wells
No new monitoring wells were drilled or completed in 1998. Production well 90-5 is
equipped with a pressure transducer with a real time read-out in the control room.
Pressure transducers and access wire was replaced in numerous wells as needed during
1998. Seventeen wells are utilized and provide continuous water level data. Water quality
data is collected from sixteen wells.
•
21
