•
•
The balance of injection and recovery rates of cavities #1A, 3A, 4 have been
continuously monitored using fluid level indicators installed in existing Dissolution
Surface aquifer monitoring wells and 90-5, a previously shut-in production well for
cavity #1. These wells are located near the active cavities. The fluid level data is used
to adjust the injection/recovery flow balance as necessary to return or maintain the
Dissolution Surface aquifer potientiometric level at pre-mining historical levels.
At the end of the calendar year 1998, no movement had been recorded in strata below
the subsidence well located over cavity #4. No detectable movement was expected
with only 131,660 tons extracted, of the 242,000 tons permitted.
In 1998, raw water was pumped from well 90-1 and utilized for process feed and
domestic uses. Rates of pumpage were lower than 1997 in each month except
January.
