1987 PRODUCTION AND GEOLOGIC CONDITIONS Page -3- <br />Ribs: Moderate rib slough age was experienced in local areas. This was <br />due to an increase in mining height and some local areas of loose- <br />ly cleated coal. <br />Floor: The "D" seam interburden served as the floor until it diminished <br />at which time the coal of the Lower .."D" Seam served as the floor. <br />Both were generally competent. <br />Anomalous conditions: Water seepage increased in local areas. However, <br />development proceeded with increased efforts to <br />handle the water with few problems. <br />MINE INFLOWS <br />In June, 1987, the Orchard Valley West Mine had been developed to Crosscut X026 <br />of the South III Sub-Mains. As shown on the mine inflow map (Drawing No. FOlU- <br />0201) attached, little water was encountered during this development. A few <br />areas of immeasurable dripping roof and rib occurred and subsequently dried. As <br />the mine was further developed, other inflows were exposed and would be reported <br />in the June, 1988, inflow study. <br />Approximately seven million gallons of water were imported into the Orchard <br />• Valley West Mine during 1987. Of this total, approximately two million gallons <br />could be attributed to leakage from an underground pipeline which had broken. <br />No water was pumped from the mine. Water was pumped underground into sumps <br />established along the sub main and into the extreme north end of the South III <br />Sub mains which had been abandoned due to very poor roof conditions. No water is <br />expected to be pumped from the mine, as most is absorbed into the product coal <br />or soaks into the floor. <br />• <br />
