Permittee Name: ~ewater Building Materials, Corp••
Permit No: M-77-129
Operation Name: Whitewater 500 Pit
Anniversary Date: 09 / 22 / 93
Reference is made to MLRB Rules and Regulations, Section
2.4.1.
(1) Mining continued in Stage 1 and Stage D on the areas pre-
viously stripped. In Stage 1 the final 12.45 acres ± (yellow)
was mined and in Stage D we continued to mine on the 1.92 ac.
± stripped last year (brown). The Plant Site in Stages W, Z
and 2 is still in use (tan). In addition 22.84 acres ± was
stripped in Stage 2, in preparation for mining in 1994 (gray).
A new access road (black) is being constructed around the area
in Stage 2 that will be mined. This road provides access to
Stage 1 and Stage D since the old one crossed the mining area
and will be removed or under water. The overburden was
stripped from the area we will mine next year in Stages 2 and
D and stockpiled for use when reclamation begins.
(2) Since mining did not end in Stage 1 until late August. No
planting was scheduled for this year. A section of bank
sloping totaling 3.73 acres ± or 3300 linear feet, is complete
in Stage 1 this amounts to approximately 57 % of the total
(green). Most of the materials mined this year were confined
to the portion of Stage 1 that will be lake bottom when
reclamation is complete so no reclamation is required in that
area. Stages A, B & C have 1700 linear feet (2.11 ac. t) of
3h to lv bank sloping complete (see 1992 report map).
Topsoiling is also complete on the above water slopes on the
area where sloping was completed in 1992.
(3) This will be the first year mining takes place in Stage 2. We
have stripped 22.84 acres ± (gray) on the west side of the
stage. Mining will continue on the 1.92 acres ± stripped and
partially mined in Stage D (brown). Stage Y is still in use
as approved in the plan. If additional mining area is needed
the areas disturbed in Stages 2 and D will be enlarged.
(4) The amendment submitted in 1981 explained that until we stop
dewatering Stage 1 the chances of establishing vegetation in
Stages X, Y and the banks of Stage 1, are very slim because of
the very grid conditions in this area. We will continue
backfilling the area in Stage Y as approved. We will complete
slope grading on the remaining 2,540 linear feet of shore line
on the east side of Stage 1 (orangej. Once this is complete
the area will be topsoiled and the pump will be removed
allowing the lake area to refill. Revegetation will take
place in the fall of 1994 or the spring of 1995, depending
when the lake is refilled and the water table returns to
normal.
