Fina] West Elk Mine 2005 Annual Hydrology Report 16
• 3.2.1.8 Spring 27-1
Spring 27-1 is located in upper Sylvester Gulch (tributary to North Fork) and feeds an area known
as "twin ponds". This spring issues from alluvial sediments and is above the south side of mine
Panel 15 (Box Canyon mine panel area). Hydrologic monitoring measurements from this station
are taken at the end of a plastic drain pipe.
3.2.1.9 Sprin¢ G-7
Spring G-7 is located in a western tributary to Sylvester Gulch and is south of the NE mine panel
area and north of the SE panel area. This spring issues from joints in a sandstone ledge and has
perennial flow, but shows strong seasonal variations with high flows in the spring months.
3.2.1.lOSrrinn G-16
Spring G-16 is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE mine panel area. This spring issues from
a sandstone bed above the F Coal Seam and flows seasonally. It is typically dry in the late summer
and fall.
3.2.1.11 Spring G-24
• Spring G-24 (decreed spring #8) is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE mine panel area. This
spring issues from alluvium and is measured at the outflow of a plastic drainage pipe. It flows
seasonally and is typically dry in the late summer and fall.
3.2.1.12Spring G-14
Spring G-14 (decreed spring #7) is located in Sylvester Gulch east of the NE mine panel area. This
spring issues from fractures in the base of a sandstone bed. It flows seasonally and is typically dry
in the late summer and fall.
3.2.1.13Spring G22
Spring G-22 (decreed spring #3) is located in the Sylvester Gulch drainage on a hillside on the west
side of the drainage just south of a mine ventilation shaft and east of the NE mine panel area. It
issues from alluvium over a wide area and feeds a wetland on the west side of Sylvester Gulch.
Flow diminishes in late summer and autumn.
•
September 2006 HydroGeo, InC.
