Eight monitoring wells are present
6 in Purgatoire River;
1 in Apache Canyon;
1 in Ciruela Canyon;
all wells are alluvial completions only.
2. No bedrock monitoring wells exist, only an annual spring and seep
survey.
Monitoring Results - GROUND WATER
1. Well PAW-2 shows a rise in conductivity to 1,337 umhos on June 25
sampling date, a level double historical records average. Also
manganese and iron show increases above previous years and are above
drinking water standards and Environmental Protection Agency criteria
levels.
2. Wells PAW-3 and 4 are too new to determine if any variations from
baseline have occurred, but don't show any significant variations from
nearby baseline water quality with the exception that manganese and
sometimes iron are near or slightly above some suspect parameter
levels, as mentioned previously. However, Well PAW-4 showed a sharp
increase in TSS of 4,299 mg/1 on November 26, 1985 which may have
indicated levels in excess of 5 percent of a test TSS criteria. An
explanation as to what may have caused this rise in TSS is necessary.
This sample may not be useable for baseline water quality because of
this sharp rise in TSS.
3. Well PAW-6 showed a sharp increase in TDS to 1,460 mg/1 on February 26,
1984, which is an increase of about a factor of 4 above the average
TDS. Additionally the TSS of 593 mg/1 on November 26, 1985 may be
somewhat higher than the average in this Purgatoire River wellfield.
As no explanation is offered for these occurrences it is hard to infer
what may have happened; so please determine if these sample data are
useable.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
