• Revegetation <br />Seeding and Planting. <br />A total of 25.9 acree were permanently seeded in the south mine block, •A' pit area. of the <br />Seneca II~W Mine in 1995. Seedings included 25.9 acree seeded with Seed Mix No. 1 ~ Upland <br />Sites and Ephemeral Drainages and supplemented with additional Eorb and shrub seed !Table <br />95.3). There were no permanent revege to ti on activities in the north mine block. Seeded <br />areas are shown on Exhibit 95.2. The area which received topsoil from pile N was disced <br />prior to seeding. Seeding was completed with a Laird rangeland type drill seeder. All <br />permanent Seedings were completed in late September and early October. <br />Shrub seedling planting. . <br />During September 1995, 1000 Serviceherry, 1000 Chokecherry, and 450 Scrub oak seedlings <br />were planted in shrub plot 95-1 2-W. Bitterroot Native Growers of Corvallis. MT grew these <br />seedlings from seed collected at Seneca Mine. The seedlings were B to 10 inches in height. <br />The shrub ploe was treated with OUST herbicide to restrict the emergence of annual plants <br />. which compete with the newly transplanted shrubs for nutrients and water. The OUST was <br />applied a[ 3 ounces per acre with a boom spray rig two weeks prior to out planting of the <br />seedlings. This plot is loca [ed northeast of the live shrub clumps and near the center of <br />"A' pit reclaimed area. (See Exhibit 95.3 Eor seeded area and shrub plots locations). No <br />mulching activities were conducted during 1995. <br />Monitoring. <br />Revegetation monitoring was conducted at the Seneca II-W mine on the area seeded in 1993. <br />See 1995 Seneca II and II-W Aevege to lion Monitoring Report, ESCO, Inc. <br /> Weed COR[LO1. <br /> Survey of noxious weeds was carried out on the mine permit area during the 1995 field <br /> season. Weed control activities were conducted along the mine entrance road, near Pond <br /> 006, Pond 005 and Pond 009. Canada thistle (C irs ium arvensel was the target species in <br /> control areas. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mix of 2.5 gallons of 22K Tordon <br /> and 2.5 gallons of 2,4,~D with 250 gallons of water. A spot spray gun was used to <br /> concentrate control activities on targ et areas. See Exhibit 95 .4 for locations of areas <br /> treated with this herbicide during May 1995.
