The actual volume of Boil salvaged and stockpiled from 1989 through December 31,
• 1995 was determined b o
field surve The base
f existin
soil stora
e stock
iles and
y y g
p
.
g
existing elevations for each stockpile were completed by the Seneca.II-w engineering staff.
The stockpile volumes as of December 31, 1995 are listed in Table 95.2, p. B. Ae of
December 1995, 69.7 acre-feet of soil were stockpiled along the tie across haul road and
525,5 acre-feet of soil were stockpiled in the mine area.
Soil Balance and Replacement.
The soil balance ie calculated Eor Seneca II-W Mine by comparing the disturbance area [hat
requires soil replacement as of December 31, 1995 with the soil reserve in stockpiles. The
disturbance area for Seneca II~W Mine, shown on Exhibit 96.2a witR exception eo the tie
across haul road. totaled 548.5 acres on December 31, 1995. No soil was salvaged or needs
to be replaced beneath any soil stockpile sites. Also, since Pond 005 (4.8 acresl. Pond
006 (7.9 acres), the Mine Entrance Road, Haul Road A, and Haul Road G are permanent
postmine facilities (11.2 acres), soil will only be replaced on a portion of those roads
effectively narrowing them to 20 feet wide. Topsoil has been replaced on 107.4 acres of
disturbed area through December 31, 1995. Therefore, the to [al disturbance area requiring
• topsoil as of December 31, 1995 was 417.2 acres at the mine site and 96.6 acres for the
tie-across haul road.
Soil Replacement Thickness. The soil replacement thickness Eor the first five year permit
term was projected to be 1.3 feet Eor the mine area and 0.7 feet Eor the tie~acrose haul
road. The soil balance as of December 31. 1995 was calculated as follows:
Total Disturbance area = 548.5
Permanent Facilities 6 Topsoil replaced = (131.31
Disturbance area requ irinq soil = 417.2 acres
Soil in stockpiles (Table 95.21 = 525.5 acre~Eeet
Mean replacement depth = 1.3 Eeet
Tie Aczo9s Haul Aoad
Disturbance area requiring soil = 96.6 acres
Soil in stockpiles (Table 95.21 = 69-7 acre feet
Mean replacement depth = 0.7 feet
. By dividing the soil available by [he area requiring soil replaced, the 1995 soil balance
is a thickness of 0.7 feet for the tie-across haul road and 1.3 feet for the mine area.
4
