!' of Ohio Creek. The mine is approximately 17 miles northwest of the Town <br />of Gunnison. There are several other coal mines in the area, including <br />the Nu mine, the Ohio Creek lll, the Kubler Mine, and others. The mine <br />is on an open, relatively untimbered hillside that is covered with sage- <br />brush, wild grasses and other natural vegetation. There are no residences, <br />roads, major drainages or other significant features overlying the mine <br />site. <br />HYDROLOGY <br />SURFACE WATER HYDROLOGY <br />An analysis has been made of the surface hydrology of the site. The <br />calculations for this analysis are shown on Appendix I at the end of <br />this report. In essence, [his evaluation considers the effect of a ten <br />year, twenty-four hour storm occurring in six fours. 1'h is design storm <br />l is the basis for the design of diversion ditches, retention pond, and <br />run-off figures. Data for this evaluation were obtained from the Soil <br />Conservation Service in Gunnison and from other references cited at the <br />end of Appendix I. This analysis also considered the effects of erosion <br />and the amount of sedimentation that can be expected at the retention <br />pond. The existing retention pond and proposed retention pond locations <br />are shown on Figure 1. Figure 2, entitled "Area Drainage Layout" de- <br />fines the locations of the various features and structures associated <br />with [he affected area of [he mine site. In essence, Figure 3 shows the <br />surveyed plat of existing facilities. The design involves constructing <br />diversion ditches along the bases of [he high wall cuts on [he upper <br />and lower levels of the affected area. These will be led to a culvert <br />from the upper area crossing [he mine road and the county road to a <br />2 <br />
