weed control areas wi 11 continue to be monitored in 1999 for effectiveness and necessary
• [eCreat ment.
Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monito rl ng of permanently revegeCat ed areas was conducted during the summer of
1998 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 1998 annual revegetation monito ring report is submitted
as a separate document (E$CO and SCC, 1999.
GrazSn9
Long yearlings grazed Sn the Wadge Pasture and the Pecoco Pasture during 1998. On May 25,
121 head were placed in the Pecoco Pasture. On June 19, 150 head were placed in the Wadge
pasture. On August 1, all cattle were moved off the Pecoco pasture. On September 6, all
ca ctle were moved off the Wadge pasture.
This grazing scheme resulted in 320 animal unit months (AUMS) of grazing in the Wadge
Pasture, and 223 AUMS of grazing in the Pecoco Pasture. Based on 1998 Wadge Pa stute
sampl Sng data, the annual production was 4,220 pounds per acre on 300 acres, resulting in
1563 AUMs available. The resulting utilization in the Wadge Pasture was 20 percent.
The resulting utilization for the Pecoco Pasture (1564 lb./acre production, 210 acres, 405
AUMs available) was 55 percent.
Since SCC must haul wafer to the cattle in the Wadge Pasture this pasture is not utilized
as much as [he Pecoco Pasture which has live water. In 1999, SCC plans to cha nqe the Wadge
pasture fence to include stock pond N29 at the lower Wolf Creek reclaimed area.
In order [o manipulate the alfalfa component of these pastures, Seneca began grazing 30
days sooner in 1998 than Sn the past. See the 1998 Annual Revegetation Monitoring Report
for discussion concerning the effects of grazing in [he Wadge Pasture, (ESCO, 19991
Assumptions: 1 long yearling = .R AUM, requiring 648 pounds of forage per month.
