194,910 cubic yards that were live handled. This yardage taken
over the 62.3 acre stripping area would equate to a 2.4 feet
swelled stripping depth. Normal mine policy of removing all
available topsoil was followed. Topsoil replaced during 1994 was
on reclaimed locations in the Moffat Area and temporary roads at
the west edge of the Moffat area used earlier for topsoil removal.
These areas at the western edge of disturbance were topsoiled with
material that had been windrowed next to the areas. The total of
all areas covered was 84.5 acres. These areas are shown on
Exhibit 1. The eastern most area of topsoil replacement for the
year was selected as this years area that will not be seeded for
comparison on vegetation success from live handling. This area
covered 49.1 acres and is labeled "BLOCK # 7" on Exhibits 3 & 4.
Some of the remaining 35.4 acres replaced prior to spring seeding
were seeded along with acreage replaced in 1993. These areas of
seeding are also shown in Exhibits 3 & 4 and include Blocks 3, 5
and 6. In total 51.8 acres were seeded with the approved
reclamation seed mix during 1994. The Edna Mine permit requires
that topsoil samples be taken from areas that are seeded to
determine both depth and nutrient quality of the topsoil. These
samples will be taken during the spring of 1995 and the results
provided to the CDMG in an addendum to this report, as Appendix B,
at that time. This schedule was discussed and approved via phone
conversation with Ms. Susan Burgmaier of the CDMG on 1/24/95.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES SEEDED:
Permanent revegetation areas added for 1994 were all in the Moffat
mining area. 49.1 acres were covered with live handle topsoil and
will not have seed applied. This is consistent with approved
plans o test plots of non-seeded areas on the Moffat Lease.
These reas are on the eastern extremes of the Moffat mining area
and ar shown in Exhibits 1, 3 and 4. An additional 51.8 acres
was se ded with the approved seed mix in the spring of 1994.
These areas lie in the middle and lower sections of the Moffat
lease as separated by the haul road network. These areas are
shown on Exhibits 1, 3 and 4.
A seed tag from the 1994 seeding program is included in this
packet for confirmation of the seed mix used.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES PREVIOUSLY PLANTED:
Exhibits 3, 4 and 5 show locations of permanent revegetation areas
at the Edna Mine. Exhibits 3 and 4 recap progress to date on the
Moffat Area revegetation and Exhibit 5 is an overview of the
entire permit area. Table 1 recaps the yearly acreage figures for
final seeding. Appendix A contains the approved seed mixes used
at the Edna Mine encompassing the years covered.
