1994 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
NAME: The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Co.
Edna Mine
P.O. Box 176
Oak Creek, CO 80467
PERMIT #: C-80-001
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES DISTURBED:
Disturbance during 1994 was from topsoil stripping in the Moffat
area, mining activity, a small strip of topsoil stripping to
extend the Moffat Pond inlet diversion to the north, west Ridge
grading and West Ridge Hydrologic Plan work. Approximately 62.3
acres of topsoil was stripped in the Moffat Area. This area is
shown in Exhibit 1 of the attachments. Most topsoil stripped was
live handled to the graded area behind active mining activities.
No topsoil remained windrowed ahead of mining at year end 1994.
Mining disturbance areas were limited to the Moffat Area. This
area covered approximately 62.5 acres and is shown on Exhibits 1
labeled as "Coal Removal". West Ridge Hydrologic plan work
involved finish work on the last two check dams to be built and
construction of an armored channel from the last of the
constructed check dams to the inlet of the West Ridge sediment
pond. This area is not shown on the maps in this years report.
These activities were detailed in a report sent to the CDMG in
October of 1994.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES BACKFILLED AND GRADED:
Backfilling and grading activities encompassed a total of 129.0
acres. Of this total 64.8 acres was final grading in the Moffat
Area, and is outlined in Exhibit 1. The remaining 64.2 acres was
final grading activity in the West Ridge Area as shown on Exhibit
2. Grading activity on west Ridge completed the last of the
Backfilling for the West Ridge area. Grading work to be competed
on the West Ridge area now includes elimination of roads and
terrace construction. The terrace construction will represent the
final phase of the West Ridge Hydrologic Reconstruction Plan.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES TOPSOILED:
Topsoil stripped was from the Moffat area covering 62.3 acres most
being live handled except for loads hauled in January and February
of 1994 which were stockpiled in the southern Moffat topsoil
stockpile. The topsoil removal area is shown on Exhibit 1. A
total of 7963 loads of topsoil were removed during 1994. Of these
loads 1466 were placed in the stockpile. Using a Cat 637 scraper
struck capacity of 30 cubic yards this equates to approximately
238,890 cubic yards of topsoil. The 1466 loads taken to the
stockpile account for 43,980 cubic yards of this total leaving
