i~
' Mui S~rdry andSndry Kwu p~q ps~~~y,~Y
' The average annual precipitation is about 12 to 14 inches. The average annual air temperature
' is 46 to 48 degrees fahrenheit, and the average frost-free season is 110 to 130 days.
' The Gaynor-Sixmile bouldF:ry. clay loam unit is used for extensive prospecting and mining of
uranium and vanadium, wildlife habitat, and limited livestock grazing. The unit provides wildlife
' habitat for mule deer, rabbit, hawks and eagles, but is poorly suited to recreational development.
It is limited mainly by large stones and slope. This map unit is also poorly suited to homesite
' urban development, with the main limitations being large stones, slope, high shrink-swell
potential, and slow permeability.
' The unit is about 45 percent Gaynor soils and 30 percent Sixmile soils. Included in this unit is
', about 15 percent Rock ouG:rop, 5 percent Pinon and Unnamed moderately deep 53 soils, 5
percent Unnamed 30 soils, ~utd 5 percent of Sixmile-like soils with over 35 percent clay in the
'' control section. The rock fragments on the surface of this mapping unit range from moderately
bouldery to extremely bouldery. The size of rock fragments aze predominantly boulders and
' stones with some cobbles and pebbles present.
~' 2.6.1 Gavnor Soil
' The Gaynor soil is moderately deep and well drained. It formed in residuum derived dominantly
from gray shale. Typically, the surface layer is brown bouldery clay loam about 5 inches thick.
t The underlying material to a depth of 32 inches is light gray silty clay loam. Gray shale
underlies the clay loam at a depth of 32 inches. Permeability of the Gaynor soil is moderately
slow to a depth of 5 inches .and slow below this depth. Available water capacity is moderate.
Effective rooting depth is 20 to 40 inches. Runoff is medium to very rapid, and the hazard of
water erosion is moderate to very high.
1
1
Page 6
1
