ANNUAL REFDF:T FOR OCTOBER lU, 1989. PERMIT ANNIVERSARY
PORTLAND QUARRY PERMIT NO. 77-344
----------------------------------------------
FREMONT COUNT`(, COLORADO
IDEAL BASIC INDUSTRIES, INC.
The current level of production at the Portland Quarry has been
reduced since 1986 as evidenced in the reduced rate of
advancement of the various mining faces. Thvugh there is little
change in the current overall mining plan, two signifiicant
changes will affiect the rate of advancement. First, efforts are
underway to consolidate and expedite the reclamation process in
the quarry. For example, roads that tend to isolate portions of
the reclaimed areas are being back filled and prepared for
reclamation now rather than lying dormant until mining resumes in
that area. Second, an engineering study investigating the
utilization of additional raw materials is in progress.
The status of the mining areas follow:
1. Location and Number of Acres Affected During the Year.
As in 1987, there has been no change in acreage affected in
1988.
Shown below is a summary of the areas.
Total Permitted Area 1526 Acres
Current Affected Area, Bonded ~.30.25 Acres
Minor Disturbance, Seeded, ready for
seeding, and receiving sewer sludge. 146.25 Acres
Moderate Disturbance, Stabilized waste,
roads, overburden and working areas. 94 Acres
Mayor Disturbance, active quarry areas. 90 Acres
Cut 1 Sewer sludge is being spread on this area except the
topsoil stockpile at the north end. Most of the road
areas have been covered with topsoil and seeded.
Cut 2 The grass seeding on the east side of this cut is
still impressive, there is a defiinite demarkation
of the areas that are receiving sewer sludge and
