~~
R. G. OTTO & ASSOCIATES
~:::
This formation was assumed to obstruct the movement of nearsurface
gzouad water down the Ralston Creek drainage, bringing nay
subsurfac~a flow to the surface where it would enter the stream at
the point of obstruction.
Semolina Procedures: Water samples were collected at Y~oth surface
water sites and at the well site in September 1983, December 1983,
February 1984, May 1984 and August 1984. Single grab _,amples were
collected at the well site in each case using a PVC bailer.
Several preliminary grabs were taken to flush standing water from
the well. A single grab was then taken, filtered (0.4;iu), split
and preserved according to USGS specifications for the individual
ii{; parameters.
~Gi1=
Surface water samples were initially taken as grabs an<i
subsequeatlp collected using a USGS standard flow-proportioning
collection device (DH-98 or a larger, dual-bottle version termed
the °Dolly Parton°). The device was lowered into the ~atream at
lixed, cross-sectional increments to obtain a sample
representative of the total llow at the time of collec•bioa.
Samples were split (using a USGS "churn-type" spliter) and
preserved (or liltezed and preserved for determination of soluble
phase constituents) according to USGS specifications for the
individual parameters. Stream flow, water temperature,
conductivity, pH and dissolved oxygen concentration were measured
in the field at the time of sample collection.
17
