During the course of the study measurements were obtained by using a 4"
and 8" cutthroat flume, or where conditions allowed, a measuring container
and stop watch. At the time of measurement a water sample was obtained
and was analyzed for temperature, pH, and EC. The temperature was taken
at the time of sampling, while the pH and EC analysis were performed at
CT&E's laboratory located at the mine.
In the eastern portion of the mine there are no measured significant
sources of water. The water that is made is pumped to the mine's main
sump. It is assumed that this water is being made' at mine faces.
However, this cannot be proven due to mine conditions.
At this time the No. 5 Mine discharge is measured in two ways. The first
being totalizing meters set on each of the No. 5 Mine's pumps. The second
being a 12" cutthroat flume installed in the discharge stream. The meters
give a total discharge record, while the flume provides an instantaneous
reading. Both are monitored on a weekly basis. Of the two, the meters
provide a better record of the discharge. The discharge record obtained
from the two sources provides a method for estimating inflows which cannot
be measured in the mine due to safety constraints. The data for the pump
meters are summarized on Table 4. The discharge, per this source ranged
from 590.90 to 732.81 gpm for the period of July 3, 1985 to June 20, 1986,
based upon average to date discharges.
Table 4 - No. 5 Mine Discharge Data - Meter Records
Average Discharge i.9Pm)
Date For Week To Date
07-03-85 164.09 732.53
07-12-85 734.16 732.56
07-18-85 759.43 732.81
07-26-85 698.15 732.39
OS-O1-85 734.74 732.41
08-08-85 760.36 732.71
08-14-85 687.85 732.29
08-22-85 216.01 126.19
08-28-85 253.56 721.99
09-05-85 341.16 717.54
09-12-85 381.78 714.23
09-18-85 397.54 711.64
09-27-85 198.66 705.20
10-03-85 222.09 701.07
-4-
