J2.0 Characterization of Landslide
This section is an update of Section H2.0 of the 1999 Addendam to the "1997/98 Landslide Corrective
Measures Report". This section provides updated information on the chazacter of the landslide, based on
2001 engineering analysis and study of the slide that was performed.
In the "main landslide" area, downslope of the rack bluff, the landslide is characterized in accordance with
Appendix H2.0, and is further updated as follows. Based on observations of mirror and inclinometer
movements from July 1999 to November 2001, the rate of movement of the slide is updated as:
Rate ojMovemenr: Extremely Slow (Less than 1 inch per year). Rates of movement
measured by surface mirrors in the head, body and tce of the slide show
little or no movement. Inclinometers installed at the body and tce of the
slide indicate movements of less than 0.25 inches per year.
State of Activity: Reactivitated slide approaching a suspended state.
In summary the "main landslide" can be characterized as reactivated but approaching suspension,
advancing, singular, extremely slow, moist, translational earthen slide.
For the "secondary landslide" areas above the rack bluff and F-Seam portal wall, the landslide can be
characterized in accordance with Appendix H2.0 with the following update:
Rate of Movement: Extremely Slow (Less than l inch per year). Inclinometer I99-O8
indicates extremely small movement on the storage bench west of Portal
#1 from a period between August 2000 and May 2001.
Style of Activity: Singular.
Distribution of Activity: Advancing primarily since the surface of rupture has been extending in
the direction of movement.
Barr Engineering Company December 15, 2000
PCDOCS~230503/CAK 2 Appendix J
2001 Addendum to
1997/98 Landslide Correetlve Measures Report
