OCT-M-2000 15:37 WALSH EWIRONI'E.NTFIL 303443036" P.03
•
Cariboo Park Restoration Proposal
Palle S
SCODe of Work
Phase 1: Natural Resource Damage Assessment„ Restoration Design
and Immediate Response
'task 1: Natural Resource Damage Assessment
1. Data Compilation and Assimilation
Existing and supplemental data will by itilized to document the pre• and post-disturbance
site conditions at Caribou Park. Calais Resources will supply existing data; and
supplemental data will be procured by WALSH from public sources, resource agencies
and similar data repositories. The bcs:available:data will be:obtained and assimilaled
and comparedto Feld data collected by WALSH, with the intent of documenting the
natural resource damage caused by the 'Mutifest". This task includes attendance at two
(2)clientlattomey meetings in Boulder, Colorac'o. (Note:This sub-task is currently in
progress in an effort to expedite restoration planning and design efforts).
2. Vegetation Inventory:
WALSH will inventory the existing ve:getarion and document the relative distriburtion,
abundance, and diversity of species witt.in the wetland and adjacent transitional plait
communities. The vegetation inventors, mill includes an onsite assessment of the disturbed
wetland habitat, adjacent undisturbed wetland habitat, disturbed transitional habitat and
undisturbed transitional habitat. During the inventory, representative photographs veil] be
taken of the disturbed areas. The relat.ve distribution and abundance of plant
communities, including specific zonation of ind, vidual plant species, will be documented
to formulate the basis of the design. Thu,plant inventory will also provide the native
species fist (i.e.,plant palette)from which the planting specifications will be formulated.
These `biological benchmarks"provided by the damaged areas and the adjacent
undisturbed areas serve as the basis for design. In essence,Plature proscribes the, rorrect
arrangement and location of plant communities and plant species within each plant
community. (Note: This sub-task has been completed in an effort to expedite restoration
planning and design efforts).
3, Base Mapping:
The 1'= 200' topographic base map of Caribou Parlc(1995) llustruing the existing
topographic and site conditions will be obtained in digital foeTnat from Intrasearch, .[tic.
(i.e., the mapping firm that prepared the detailed topographic survey and aerial
photography of Caribou Park in 1995). The finia topographic base map will be compiled
into AutoCAD (computer-aided drafting and design software). This base map wi;l
become one of the exhibits of pre-disturbance (or baseline)conditions.
