Box 653 —Caribou
Nederland, Colorado 80466-0653
Re: Scope of Work for Caribou Park Werland Restoration
Dear.Mr. Hendricks:
Walsh Environmental Scientists and En;oneers, L C (WAL';H)is pleased to assist Calais
Resources with the assessment and restoration of the Caribou Perk wetland. As we have
stated previously. we propose to approach this project In two phases. The first phas:is
the assessment of the natural resource damage caused by the"Mudfest". Once collected
and analyzed, the data will be utilized i:o prepare the restoration design plan. The second
phase is the implementation of the restoration dt:sign.
The following Scope of Work for Phase 1 outlines the steps necessary to document the
site conditions, assess the damage result ng from the"Mucifest",and design the
restoration of the Caribou Park wetland. Phase .t also includ.-s the implementation of the
"immediate response" restoration measures, which Itre proposed prior to perrnanant
freezing and snow-pack at Caribou Park(i.e., be Fort:the end of October 2000). Because
of the sensitive nature of this project,it is imperative that WM SH document each step of
the process and provide Calais Resourc es the most accurate data possible. These clat.i will
be utilized to formulate a scientifically feasible and legally sound design approach tF at
ensures the ultimate restoration of pre-disturbance habitat conditions.
Although Phase i has not been implemented yet, and therefore;the resulting data are not
available,we have included our best prol'essional estimate for the Phase 2 costs. Phase 2
will be implemented in spring 2001 (i.e.,after snow melt) anti will include final
restoration implementation, maintenance and monitoring.
The following tasks describe the approach WAUH proposes to utilize.
488E Pearl Em%E Circic .
