• Two mine water discharge sites associated with the TCC operations are monitored. Site 109 requires quarterly
monitoring for flows, field parameters, and water quality samples, and site 115 is monitored as an NPDES
discharge point in accordance with the requirements se[ forth under NPDES Permit No. CO-0042161.
Monitoring requirements at both sites were fulfilled during 1998.
Mining in the Southwest Mining District was completed in February 1996 and with this occurrence, the need to
continue dewatering operations at site 115 was eliminated. TCC developed a plan to recirculate water
accumulating in the Southwest Mining Dis[ric[ and utilize it for dust control purposes elsewhere in the mine. A
water level measuring point was established at the Fish Creek Borehole in July of 1996. The water elevation was
recorded at 5774.2' in July. Before being recirculated, water was to be allowed to accumulate to elevation 5960'.
Water was not discharged at site 1 I S until August, 1998.
Table 58 provides a summary of the 1998 Water Year data collected from site 109. Table 58a provides a period
of record statistical summary of collected data a[ the site. Table 58b presents water meter readings a[ site 109 for
the 1998 Water Year. Figure 111 provides a gaphical representation of period of record field conductivity for
mine water discharged at site 109. Early in November, 1996 pumping was discontinued at site 109.
1998 Water Year data for mine water discharge site I I S is presented on Table 59. Table 59a provides the period
of record statistical summary. Table 59c presents water pumping records at site 115 for the 1998 Water Year.
•
NPDES DISCHARGE SITES
Numerous additional NPDES discharge points at TCC operations are monitored throughout the year with
monitoring results submitted to the Division on a periodic basis in accordance with permit requirements. Tables
60 through 65a provide Water Year and period of record data summaries for those NPDES outfall points other
than mine dewatering site 115, which discharged during the year. The reader is referred to the Discharge
Monitoring Reports (DMRs) submitted during the year for additional information regarding specific discharge
occurrences. Applicable permits include No.'s CO-0027154, CO-0036684, and CO-0042161. Figures 112
through 115 provide graphical representations of Water Year flow rate and field conductivity data for Pond D at
the Foidel Creek Mine and for Pond E at the Fish Creek Tipple. Figure 116 depicts period of record total
recoverable iron data for Pond E.
MINE INFLOW MONITORING
. During the 1998 water year the annual inflow survey was performed during December, and water elevations
were monitored from the Fish Creek Borehole during the period.
