• One natural spring (20-14) located in the vicinity of proposed future underground mining areas required semi-
annual flow/field parameter and water quality sampling during 1998. Monitoring requirements were me[ at [his
site in 1998. Monitoring at the site was initiated in 1987 and flows have historically been minor (see Figure 108).
Conductivities historically exhibited by the spring are presented as Figure 109. A statistical water quality
summary for [he site is presented as Table Sla. Several measured parameters occurred outside of the previously
established range in September, 1997. New minimums were established for dissolved calcium and bicarbonate.
New maximums were established for lab pH, and carbonate.
SPOIL SPRWG MONITORING
Two spoil spring sites, 7 and the 303 series, require monitoring under the approved program at TCC. Spoil spring
7 is monitored in accordance with [he approved spoil spring monitoring program. The spoil spring monitoring
program was initiated in 1986 and is conducted annually. In accordance with the approved plan, the annual mine
wide survey is conducted during May with springs measured for flow and field parameters. If a spring is
discharging at or above 35 gallons per minute, it is monitored for the next year in accordance with the monitoring
plan. During the 1998 Water Yeaz, spoil spring 7 flow was not measured in excess of 35 gpm and consequently
additional monitoring requirements were not triggett=d. Quarterly flow and field parameter data along with semi-
• annual water quality sampling is required from this site in addition to the spoil spring monitoring requirements.
As no flow was observed at this location during the 1998 Water Year, no measurements or parameters could be
obtained. 1998 Water Year data for this site is presented as Table 52. A statistical water quality summary for the
site is presented as Table 52a.
The 303 series spoil springs require monitoring on asemi-annual basis for Flows, field parameters, and water
quality samples. Water quality samples for these sites, historically, have been obtained from composite site 87-I.
Tables 53 through 55 provide summaries of [he 1998 Water Year data collected a[ each 303 series spoil spring.
Table 53a provides a period of record statistical summary of collected data at site composite 87-1. Figure 1 10
provides a graphical representation of period of record field conductivity for spoil spring 303-1. Only one water
quality parameter was documented outside of the previously established ranges at this site in September (Table 5).
Manganese (TR) established a new maximum value.
M[NE WATER DISCHARGE SITES
