• conditions caused delays during the quarter, and completion of the cover project
for the season was on November 11, 1985. The cover project ended 1,000 - 1,500
cy short on approximately 1/3 acre of the south west corner of the lower bench.
Diagram 1 shows the extent of fill on the north and south ends of the bench
and Diagram 2 shows the final contours of the cover for the quarter. The area
short of cover is circled on Diagram 2.
Rock around the toe was generally placed during the initial excavation of the
project. During this quarter all but a 20' segiment on the south end and 40' on
the north end was placed. On the north end the rock was placed along the toe
of the entire slope and the existing slope. This was done to satisfy the initial
intent of the rock-erosion control in the event of extremely high water in Hubbard
Creek. Due to the large irregular shape of the rock the toe has an irregular
blocky appearance rather than the uniform 10' high by 20' wide toe shown in
the plans.
The four remaining stability monuments were placed along the top edge of the bench
• on November 7, 1985. In the process of installing these monuments a fourth
piezometer was installed near S-6.
Prior to seeding six soil samples were taken to determine fertilizer requirements.
(see attached report). Samples #3 and #6 were in areas where topsoil has been
adequately distributed. The topsoil samples were not much different than the other
colluvium with respect to fertility, texture and salinity. The seed mix shown on
the attached copy of the bag labels was broadcast seeded at a rate of 30 pounds
per acre p.l.s. November 14, 1985. The suggested fertilizer was broadcast the
same day. Mulching at a rate of 1} - 2 tons of oatstraw per acre was done
November 21 - 23, 1985. Netting was stapled down on 1/4 of the slope but was
discontinued due to heavy snow.
The work remaining to complete the bench is as follows: Complete the cover on
the southwest end of the middle bench, complete rock placement around the toe,
and install a ditch around the Yoe to connect the underdrains.
• The work done this quarter was done according to the approved plan, unless
otherwise stated herein, as specified in the Mine Bench Stabilization technical
revision submitted to Colora do Mined Land Reclamation August 9, 1984 and it's
