Livestock Water Ponds
• There aze thirteen livestock water ponds distributed throughout the reclaimed azeas (A through M).
The ponds serve to collected runoff from snowmelt and rainfall in support of the postmining land
use of livestock grazing and associated wildlife use. While livestock aze not currently using the
reclaimed azeas, herds of elk, deer, rabbits and numerous bird species have been observed using
these water resources. Many of the ponds contain water after snowmelt but dry up during mid-
summer. The practice of constructing these ponds to opportunistically harvest runoff is consistent
with similaz practices employed on local rangelands.
Three ponds K, L, and M were constructed in 1999. The construction certifications for the new
structures were fotwazded to the Division for inclusion into CDMG Petmit Exhibit 7, Item 11.
Tank E had to be repaired by removal of silt and repair of the inlet. There is no evidence suggesting
potential failure at any of these small ponds.
•
•
9
