Reportedly, a <br />1.5-inch storm event occurred the eight of 1 September, 1994. Battle Mountain Resources, Inc. (BMRI) <br />contacted SRK the morning of 2 September, 1994. A visit was arranged for the following morning since <br />all flights from Denver to Ala~sa were booked that afternoon. <br />2.0 OBSERVATIONS <br />The following general observations were made regazding the conditions at the tailingsiimpoundmeat: <br />• A concave, cirailaz crack in the upstream portion of the embankment nest, neaz the north <br />abutmem was evident (Photos 1 and 2); <br />• The crack comprised a 100 ft azc length within the upstream half of the crest width.lhere were <br />no disceroable signs of cracking of the upstream fill slope or heaving of the tailings at the tce of <br />the slope (Photo 3). <br />• The maximum opening of the crack was oa the order of two inches, and in general was less than <br />t2-inch; <br />• There was no appazent elevation differences on either side of the crack, <br />• Some erasion of the dam's "groin' area at the North abutment just downstream pf the crest was <br />noticed, and it was observed that the outside edge of the liner was not anchored (Photo 4); <br />• Erosion galleys were observed on the upstream embankment face and impoundment perimeter; <br />
