applications occurred June 29 - 1, July 24 - 27 and August 23 - 24, 2006. Weed control
efforts during 2006 were prioritized under the direction of Ken Cazlson of Habitat
Weeds were managed with chemical applications to control Canada thistle, musk thistle,
yellow toadflax, mayweed chamomile and oxeye daisy. Other weed species were not
found or considered a priority for control this yeaz. Work during the summer focused on
areas around lower Robinson Lake, Robinson Tailings Pond, Eagle Park Reservoir, Lake
Erwin, biosolid stockpiles, One Dam, Two Dam, Searle Gulch, Mayflower Tailings Pond
and Mayflower Dam. Roads throughout these sites were treated including the access gate
along highway 91 just south of Robinson Tailings Pond and roads just south of the main
gatehouse along Highway 91. On August 23 - 24 woody shrub and tree species of
willow, subalpine fir, and Engelmann spruce were sprayed on Eagle Park Reservoir Dam
to prevent deep rooting and maintain the structural integrity of the dam. A summary of
areas treated, chemical names and quantities applied are available in Appendix A.
The most prevalent weed found during the 2006 growing season was yellow toadflax.
South of the main gatehouse on the west facing slope towards highway 91 large stands of
yellow toadflax were present. Dense yellow toadflax infestations were present around the
perimeter of Robinson Lake, south facing slopes north of Robinson Lake and a staging
area below one dam. West of Lake Erwin and One Dam were significant populations of
yellow toadflax. Dense stands of yellow toadflax were present at the base of Tluee Dam,
Mayflower Dam, north of Mayflower Dam and roads throughout. Avery severe
infestation of yellow toadflax east of Mayflower Dam was present in high density.
Second in severity was oxeye daisy concentrated in the northwest region of the mine.
Patches of oxeye daisy were concentrated in areas and roads south of Eagle Park
Reservoir to Robinson Lake. South of Robinson Tailings Pond were small populations of
oxeye daisy. South of the main gatehouse along highway 91 on the west facing slope,
sparse stands of oxeye daisy were found.
Climax Mine: IPM Report 2 2/22/2007
