Mr. Jim Stover - 2 - April 11, 1989 <br />Conclusions regarding present revegetation success are outlined below. The <br />riparian and shrub revegetated areas share common success standards. <br />A. Vegetative cover: Success standard - 44.3% absolute vegetative cover <br />1. Shrub community: Absolute cover averaged 19% over the <br />four-~sec~s placed in this area. This is less than half the <br />target success standard. Cover on this area may be this low due <br />to grazing pressure from wildlife and/or domestic species. <br />2. Ri arian community: Absolute cover averaged 44% over the <br />four ransects run.~fowever, the riparian area only meets the <br />vegetation cover success criteria of 44.3% if noxious weed <br />cover values are included. If they are excluded (subtract <br />Cirsium arvense and Cirsium vulgare), the total vegetative cover <br />wo~3rop~o 36.5%,T.5'%~e ow a success standard. <br />B. Production: Success Standard - 1,784 lbs./acre <br />Data was not collected describing this parameter. <br />C. Species Diversity: Success Standard - (page 113); "A minimum of <br />one cool season sod forming gragrass, a ~Utree cool season bunch grasses, <br />with each species having a minimum relative cover of five percent. <br />Perennial fortis (all species combined) must provide a minimum of <br />five percent relative cover. No individual herbaceous species which <br />provides in excess of 60% relative cover can be counted toward the <br />diversity standard. A minimum of three woody plant species must be <br />present in the reclaimed community". <br />1. Shrub Community: The data indicates that four grass species <br />qual~for const~ration toward the species diversity standard <br />by virtue of having a relative cover between 5 and 60%. Of these <br />four species, two are cool-season sod formers (Agropyron <br />intermedium and Agropyron smithii) and two are coTason bunch <br />grasses gropyron tra ycau~nd Bromus marginatus). Agropyron <br />sp. could n~o ~e iden t to o the species evT el an~may tnc u e <br />two or more species rather than just one. If Agropyron sp. proved <br />to contain a bunch grass which contributes grea er ian ~ relative <br />cover, this revegetated area would be in compliance with the grass <br />part of the species diversity standard. The relative cover of <br />sampled forb species exceeds the minimum amount of 5%. However, <br />no woody plant species were present on the reclaimed area; three <br />are required. <br />
