Mr. Jim Stover - 2 - April 11, 1989
Conclusions regarding present revegetation success are outlined below. The
riparian and shrub revegetated areas share common success standards.
A. Vegetative cover: Success standard - 44.3% absolute vegetative cover
1. Shrub community: Absolute cover averaged 19% over the
four-~sec~s placed in this area. This is less than half the
target success standard. Cover on this area may be this low due
to grazing pressure from wildlife and/or domestic species.
2. Ri arian community: Absolute cover averaged 44% over the
four ransects run.~fowever, the riparian area only meets the
vegetation cover success criteria of 44.3% if noxious weed
cover values are included. If they are excluded (subtract
Cirsium arvense and Cirsium vulgare), the total vegetative cover
wo~3rop~o 36.5%,T.5'%~e ow a success standard.
B. Production: Success Standard - 1,784 lbs./acre
Data was not collected describing this parameter.
C. Species Diversity: Success Standard - (page 113); "A minimum of
one cool season sod forming gragrass, a ~Utree cool season bunch grasses,
with each species having a minimum relative cover of five percent.
Perennial fortis (all species combined) must provide a minimum of
five percent relative cover. No individual herbaceous species which
provides in excess of 60% relative cover can be counted toward the
diversity standard. A minimum of three woody plant species must be
present in the reclaimed community".
1. Shrub Community: The data indicates that four grass species
qual~for const~ration toward the species diversity standard
by virtue of having a relative cover between 5 and 60%. Of these
four species, two are cool-season sod formers (Agropyron
intermedium and Agropyron smithii) and two are coTason bunch
grasses gropyron tra ycau~nd Bromus marginatus). Agropyron
sp. could n~o ~e iden t to o the species evT el an~may tnc u e
two or more species rather than just one. If Agropyron sp. proved
to contain a bunch grass which contributes grea er ian ~ relative
cover, this revegetated area would be in compliance with the grass
part of the species diversity standard. The relative cover of
sampled forb species exceeds the minimum amount of 5%. However,
no woody plant species were present on the reclaimed area; three
are required.
