S~~ EN ROBERTSON b KIRSTEN
Homestake Mining Company
July 25, 1984 _
Page -4-
It is still recommended that the rock toe be constructed within the
Indian Creek drainage. Access to and removal of the current failed mass will
not be a simple task and can be avoided by constructing the proposed rock toe.
Although no major movement has occurred during this spring, the nature of the
material is such that at the high moisture contents that exist, downslope
creep will continue to take place.
Tie Camp Dump
The low-grade ore stockpile at the Tie Camp Dump has been reworked. This
area needs some additional grading to promote drainage.
The Tie Camp dump was used for waste rock disposal -l~ll~auq~,
February 1984. During this period, and particularly on
January 23, 1984, movement of the dump took place. Settlement of up to 6
inches and displacement of the dump surface, including the main mine access
road, took place. Subsequent realignment of the access road and some regrading
of the dump was performed. Currently, surface cracking of the dump is
observable. The area to the south of the dump, in which some of the gouge
material from the pit was dumped, was observed to have moved. Minor mud flows
and sloughing of material were evident.
An attempt to rework the face of the dump and develop an access road at
approximately half height could be seen. Failure of the reworked material was
evident.
The drain at the base of the dump remains covered by material that has
sloughed off the dump face.
Regrading of this dump to its ultimate reclamation shape is recommended.
The apparent instability of the dump may result in continued failure.
Currently, the location of the high-grade stockpile may limit the amount of
