In summary, all ponds aze functioning as designed and there is no evidence suggesting potential
• failure at any of the ponds.
Livestock W ater Ponds
There aze thirteen livestock water ponds distributed throughout the reclaimed azeas (numbered A
through M). The ponds serve to collected runoff from snowmelt and rainfall in support of the
postmining land use of livestock grazing and associated wildlife use. While livestock aze not
currently using the reclaimed areas, herds of elk, deer, rabbits and numerous bird species have been
observed using these water resources. Many of the ponds contain water after snowmelt but dry up
during mid-summer. The practice of constructing these ponds to opportunistically harvest runoff is
consistent with similaz practices employed on local rangelands.
No new ponds were constructed in 2000.
Pond L received maintenance to provide additional freeboazd between the bottom of the spillway
and the top of the embankment.
There is no evidence suggesting potential failure at any of these small ponds.
•
-`1
9
