<br />September 28, 1998 <br />SECTION 02200 <br />EARTHWORK <br />' PART 1 GENERAL <br />' 1.1 DESCRIPTION <br />A. This section describes the requirements for all earthwork associated with and <br />' required by the Project. Earthwork includes excavation, hauling of materials, <br />regrading, placement and compaction of embankment fills, and final grading. <br />' 1.2 RELATED SECTIONS <br />A. Section 02770 - Geosynthetic Liners <br />' 1.3 MATERIAL CLASSIFICATION <br />A. The term earthwork applies to all tailings, waste rock, soil, or rock materials placed, <br />' excavated or removed regardless of material characteristics. <br />1.4 SUBMITTALS <br />' A. Contractor may be required to submit a description of his proposed methods of <br />excavation and hauling with proposal. <br />' 1.5 SAFETY <br />' A. Contractor shall shore, brace, or slope excavations, as necessary, in accordance <br />with OSHA regulations to ensure worker safety, and to protect property from <br />damage during construction. <br />' B. Contractor shall comply with the applicable occupational safety and health <br />requirements of OSHA and MSHA. <br />' C. Contractor shall exercise particular caution during excavation, handling and <br />placement of tailings, which may exhibit elevated moisture content. <br />D. Contractor shall be fully responsible for the health and safety of all personnel on the <br />Project Site, at all times, and shall take all necessary precautions to protect such <br />health and safety. <br />' E. Contractor shall provide first aid materials and equipment at the Site, as necessary, <br />and shall coordinate with local medical facilities and identify local emergency phone <br />' numbers to supplement job site safety and first aid. <br />F. Work on steep hillsides and on/around the process areas may present safety <br />hazards to personnel and visitors. These shall be reflected in the Contractor's <br />' Earthwork <br />' J:\$A61\SPECSFNL.WPD 0220-1 <br />
