Any liner replacement that is required due to damage from the Contractor's
operations or negligence to adequately protect the liner during installation will be
made at no additional cost to the Owner.
N. Slack length in the HDPE liner shall be determine by the installer based on the
temperature at the time of installation to allow for cold weather contraction.
3.3 FIELD SEAM TESTING/QUALITY CONTROL
A. The installer shall employ on-site physical non-destructive continuous testing on all
field seams to ensure watertight homogeneous seams in accordance with ASTM D-
4437. Acceptable methods are:
1. Vacuum Chamber Test
2. Double Seam Pressurization Test (for HDPE or LLDPE material with double
wedge seam)
3. Ultrasonic (High Frequency) Pulse Echo Testing
4. Mechanical Point Stressing (qualitative measure of edge bonding only)
B. A quality control technician shall inspect each seam. Any area showing a defect
shall be clearly marked in the field and repaired in accordance with approved
procedures. The locations and types of defects shall be indicated on the QA/OC
drawings.
C. A test seam 2 feet long shall be run each day, prior to liner seaming and under the
same conditions as exist for the seaming. The test seam shall be marked with date,
ambient temperature, and welding machine number. Sample coupons shall be cut
from the test seam and pulled in shear and peel. The tensile yield strength of all
seams shall be a minimum of 90 percent of the tensile yield strength of the parent
material. Failure of the seam in peel shall exhibit Film Tear Bond (FTB). Random
samples shall be removed from the seams of the installed sheeting at an average
frequency of one per 500 feet of seam, at locations designated by the Owner's
Representative. These samples shall also be tested in shear and peel. Shear
strength of seams for 60-mil HDPE shall be equal to or greater than 120 pounds per
in (Ibs/in) and the peel strength shall be equal to or greater than 75 Ibs/in when
tested in accordance with ASTM D-4437. Any seams failing such tests shall be
repaired using approved methods, and retested, to the satisfaction of the Owners
Representative.
3.4 WARRANTY AND GUARANTEE
A. The manufacturer/installer shall guarantee the liner installation for a period of two
years, during which time the liner materials and workmanship specifically provided
t J \5661\SPECSFNL WPD
Geosynthetic Liners
02770-4
