Perform all necessary pumping required to maintain excavations in
a dewatered condition.
B. The surface of the existing embankment will be scarified, moisture conditioned and
compacted to the satisfaction of the engineer prior to fill placement. The top foot
of the existing embankment soil maybe removed if requested by the engineer. The
engineer will also evaluate any fill placed on the top of the existing embankment
prior to the commencement of construction to determine its suitability as fill material
and to determine any additional work required to prepare said fill. Any material
removed during the site preparation will be stockpiled or wasted as directed by the
Owner.
C. Prior to placing any embankment fill material, foundation areas will be prepared by
removal of any topsoil and vegetation and any loose or deleterious material. Soil
surfaces within the foundation area will be scarified to a depth of one foot, moisture
conditioned and re-compacted to a minimum density of 90 percent of Modified
Proctor density as determined by ASTM D1557. The prepared foundation surfaces
shall be inspected and approved by the Engineer. The Engineer will make every
endeavor to approve all foundation surfaces, which will accept embankment fill, in
a timely manner in order to preserve these surfaces and to insure continuity during
construction operations.
D. Any damage resulting from the Contractor's operations during the site preparation
or excavation shall be repaired at the expense of the Contractor and to the
satisfaction of the Engineer.
E. Ditches, spillways and ponds shall be excavated to the lines and grades shown on
the Drawings, and temporary culverts and access ramps shall be used, as required,
where ditches, or pipe trenches cross existing drainageways.
F. Excavation, control of sediment, and restoration in borrow areas shall be performed
in accordance with the requirements of the Company or operator of the borrow
area.
LOAD AND HAUL
A. The Contractor may be required to construct a haul road from stockpile areas to the
embankment area. The Contractor shall maintain and keep open at all times the
access road to the mine/mill where the haul road from the stockpile crosses that
road. The Contractor shall fill any wheel ruts caused by the Contractor's hauling
units as they develop. At the end of daily operations, and also the completion of
hauling, the haul road crossing of the mine/mill road shall be restored to the same
condition as the mine/mill road was in at the start of the project.
' J:16461\SPECSFNL.WPD
Earthwork
02200-7
