• Monitoring wells 113), production wefts 88-1 and 90-5, and water well 90-1 were <br />completed in 1990. Recompletion of final monitoring well (IRI-51 at the maxi-pad <br />was completed in 1991. Associated right-of-ways for phone, natural gas, electric <br />power, and access road were constructed in 1990. In January, 1991 the revised <br />NaTec Mine Plan was submitted, and approved by the BLM. Injection and <br />circulation of water began February 20, 1991 with sodium bicarbonate production <br />initiated on February 25, 1991. The revised NaTec monitoring plan was submitted <br />February 27, 1991. Also an amendment (to update plan) was submitted to the <br />~ Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division February 27, 1991. Sodium <br />bicarbonate production was periodic through 1991. In 1992, on stream <br />operations increased to meet growing market demand. As a result of process <br />improvements, the production rate increased. Process and hydrology monitoring <br />reports were submitted throughout 1992. In November, 1992 a joint venture was <br />• finalized between NaTec and North American Chemical Co. White River Nahcolite <br />Minerals, Ltd. Liability Company (WRNM) was formed by the joint venture to <br />operate the project. Sodium leases and project permits were transfered to WRNM. <br />Late in 1992, the BLM approved a unit agreement for the four sodium leases with <br />the name of Wolf Ridge Mining Unit. <br />2.0 DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AREA <br />2.1 Location and Regional Setting <br />The WRNM sodium leases (4) are located in the Piceance Creek Basin, Rio Blanco <br />County of northwestern Colorado Isee Figure 2-1). The sodium lease tracts are <br />located between Yellow Creek and Ryan Gulch approximately 41 miles from <br />Meeker, Colorado and 55 miles from Rifle, Colorado by automobile. The climate of <br />• the area is semi-arid, annual precipitation averaging 11-13 inches. <br />2 <br />
