t
G&}Q06: 1995 Annual Reclamation Rcoorr, Mr. Gcona Petlerson2
Great basin wildrye at 20 #/acre, with the strips spaced at 180 foot intervals was drill
seeded into the 720 pit area after the permanent seed mix had been applied.
Additional seed mix no. 14453 was included as well. 'This mix consists of forbs and shrubs
only. The Division speculates that this mix was strip seeded alongside strips seeded with
mixes 14021 and 14022. This absence of grasses in the mix may aid in shrub establishment.
This practice is not spelled out in the permit nor is it explained in the reclamation report.
Please elaborate on how seed mix 14453 was utilized. Rates of application and frequency
of distribution would suffice.
Annual winter rye was planted to serve as a cover crop at pit 1, and along the reclaimed
roadways. The 1995 annual reclamation report indicates that the permanent seedmix would
be planted in the Spring of 1996 at Pit 1 and along the reclaimed roads. It has been the
Division's observation that permanent seed mix seeding did not occur in the Spring of 1996
and should occur in the Fall of 1996.
The Division finds Kerr Coal Company's 1995 Annual Reclamation Report and ]995
Reclamation Map to provide the necessary information to document reclamation activities
conducted at the Marr Mine during 1995. Please provide additional information of the
application of Seed mix 14453.
Sincerely,
l
N ~"~,
lental Pro ection Specialist
c: \jhb\C80006\ 1995ARR
