Lochhead
E veruiive Duecior
Michael B. Long
Division Director
The Division has reviewed Kerr Coal Company's 1995 Annual Reclamation Report for the
Marr Mine, CDMG Permit No. C-80-006. Information provided in the report fulfill the
requirements of Rule 2.04.13.Kerr Coal Company submitted copies of the seed tags of the
seedmixes planted throughout the site as requested by the Division.
Seedmix No. 14960 was utilized oa the pond embankments after topsoil application in
December 1995. This seedmix consists nine grass species, which is appropriate based upon
the limited acreage and goal to achieve a stable non-erosive cover on the embankments.
Seedmix No. 14021 was applied by drill seeding methods over a 163.5 acre area within the
720 pit location. Seed tags supplied by Kerr Coal Company shows the composition and
application rate of this mix to be in agreement with the approved seed mix listed in
Table 67a in the permit. An additional species of Intermediate wheatgrass (Agropyron
intermedium), at a rate of 0.25 PLS lbs/acre, was included in the mix. Although this is an
introduced species, it is adapted to the region and is an appropriate inclusion for the post
mining land use of grazing and wildlife habitat. The Division accepts the inclusion of this
species in the seedmix.
Seedmix No. 14022 is complementary to seed mix no. 14021 and was seeded throughout the
720 pit in conjunction with 14021. Seed mix no. 14022 consists of forb and shrub species
and was seeded by broadcast methods. Composition and rate of application of seed mix
14022 is consistent with the approved seed mix listed in Table 67a. Winterfat (Ceratoides
Janata) was added to mix 14022, at a rate of 1.0 PIS lbs/acre, as a slight deviation from
Table 67a. This species is desirable and beneficial to the postmining land use. The Division
considers this inclusion appropriate.
III IIII111111111III
STATE OF COLORADO
Permit page 816-151Ra commits to strip planting of tall grass to serve as natural
windbreaks/living snowfences. The inclusion of nine (9) 50 lbs bags of Basin wildrye
(Elymus cinereus) accounts for these tall grass strip plantings. Twenty foot wide strips of
