SURFACE WATER MONITORING RESULTS
Table 1 in Appendix A, shows the approved Surface Water monitoring program for the New
Horizon Mine. This includes 7 NPDES discharge points.
Surface Water Monitoring
Appendix B and C document t}te 1997 water year monitoring data including flow rates and
lab analysis. The data is shown both_in table and graph form. Normal fluctuations in water
levels were concurrent with irrigation season and spring runoff.
Water quality monitoring results are in table form in Appendix B and C. Generally, quality
parameters at all groundwater monitoring wells were within historic ranges. No significant
abnormalities were noted during 1997.
NPDES Discharge Monitoring
Appendix B, C and D contains the flow and water quality data for seven NPDES discharge
• points. At New Horizon 1, only NPDES 001 discharged while 002, 003, 004, 005, and 006
just collected surface runoff. NPDES 007 (SW-N 102) at New Horizon 2 Mine discharged
during the period. NPDES 007 was converted to a flow through containment pond during
September, 1997. Poor communication between College Summer Students led to no water
quality data for NPDES 001 and NPDES 007 during August, 1997. All Npdes discharges
were within parameter limitations for water quality and quantity.
Whole Toxicity Testing (WET)
As required under the current NPDES_ permit, Whole Toxicity testing of water discharged
frotn Pond 001 on an annual basis and Pond 007 on a quarterly basis. The results are shown
in Appendix D. All test during this period passed with greater then 100% survival rate.
• 3
