Susan Mowry
June 1, 1987
Page 2
condition. Vegetation is good in previously reclaimed areas.
Marker signs are o.k.
Lower Refuse Area Topsoil Pile
No soil material was placed in or removed from this pile during
the 1st quarter. Pile was seeded and mulched last summer,
vegetation is good. No erosion or slope instability was
evident. Drainage was in good condition. Marker signs were
o.k.
Lower Refuse Area Subsoil Pile - Sylvester Gulch
No subsoil material was placed in or removed from this pile
during the 1st quarter. No erosion or slope instability was
evident. Drainage was in good condition. Vegetation is good.
Marker signs were o.k.
Sylvester Gulch Road Relocation
The road outslope is in good condition. There is no evidence of
instability of the fill. Some very minor settling is visible in
an area of natural ground immediately south of the fill. This
area is being watched closely and is currently stable and not
causing any problems. Rip rap is in place and in good
condition. No problems are anticipated from spring runoff.
Lower Refuse Area Subsoil Pile - Near MB-6
No material was placed in or removed from this pile during the
1st quarter. No erosion or slope instability was evident.
Drainage is in good condition. The pile was seeded in November,
1986. Material from the Sylvester Gulch road landslides may be
placed in this pile if necessary.
Lower Refuse Pile
Refuse was placed and compacted in the Phase I area of the pile
during the 4th quarter as specified in the approved plan. Minor
quantities of refuse was generated during the 1st quarter due to
the much reduced production rate. it is estimated that about
5000 tons of refuse was placed in the 1st quarter. Refuse was
placed in 24 inch or less lifts and compacted with a caterpillar
815 self propelled sheepsfoot compactor. Due to the small
quantities no compaction tests were done during the quarter.
The material placed during the quarter visually appears to be
well compacted and should meet the specified 908 maximum dry
density. The area will be tested in the following quarters. No
erosion problems were observed. Slopes were regraded and
dressed and appear to be in good condition. No slope stability
problems were observed. No evidence of spontaneous combustion
was observed during the quarter. The area on the North side of
the pile which was covered with 18 to 24 inches of subsoil and
seeded at various times during 1986 appears to be doing well.
Drainage is in good condition. Signs and Markers are o.k.
Sometime during the 2nd quarter placement of refuse will move to
the Phase III area.
