• Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: May 11, 1999
Subject: 2nd Quarter 1999 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On May 6, 1999 I conducted an inspection of the reclaimed and revegetated areas at the
Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests or diseases which could affect the re-
established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine.
As we discussed, the mine experienced significant rainfall during April and the first few
days of May this year. Based on mine records, a total of 8.35 inches of precipitation have
fallen at the mine from January 1, 1999 to May 2, 1999. This amount is significantly
above 1998, which experienced 8.30 inches of precipitation from January 1 to July 31.
• I did not identify any disease conditions at any of the 1985, 1986, 1987, or 1995 reclaimed
and revegetated areas. Nor did f identify any plant pests which had affected the growth of
the vegetation during the past growing season. No bare areas, or azeas which experienced
any infestation or blight were found during the inspection.
I also inspected the 1997 seedings, new permanent seeding, and the recently interseeded
areas south of the sediment pond and west of the dugout, as well as the boundary areas
adjacent to A pit. No areas of infestation by pests or diseases were observed.
All reclamation azeas revealed early green-up of cool season grasses. Older reclamation
areas contained significant growth of cool season wheatgrasses and Indian ricegrass.
Tillering of wheatgrasses and several warm season grasses was observed. In the reseeded
areas, new sprouts of perennial grasses were observed along with annual grasses and some
dicot forb sprouts.
CC: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File

-39-
