Raton Creek Mine
1998 AHR -Page 2
Surface water

Field and laboratory data collected from the approved monitoring point on the Starkville
Diversion are shown on water quality Table 4. Diversion flow measurements are summarized
on Table 5. No surface flows were observed in the permanent diversion during the reporting
period.
The approved surface water monitoring program effectively monitors the impacts of mining
operations on the surface water system adjacent to the Raton Creek Mine site. Monitoring
data documented through the period of this report indicate no significant impacts to surface
water as a result of mining operations.
Diachazges to streams
Monitoring data for the one NPDES outfall for the reporting period are summarized and
shown on to Table 6, below. Post-mining discharge monitoring parameters include flow,
settleable solids, pH, and oil and grease under the approved Colorado Wastewater Discharge
permit. A review of these data indicate that all dischazges were within NPDES permit
limitations.
TABLE 6
Period: lst Quarter 2nd Quarter 3rd Quarter 4th Quarter
Parameter
pH (ave.)
7.8
8.0
8.l
7.9
Settleable
Solids (max.) 0 0 0 0
Oil and Grease
visual none Done none none
Quantity (MG) 0.004 0.139 0.036 0.013
Precipitation Information
Precipitation data for the reporting period is summarized and shown on Figure 2. Total
precipitation for the yeaz was approximately at the average total documented in the permit
application. Storm events tended were intermittent, similar to the previous reporting period,
and not cause excessive erosion on the site.
