In addition, discussion and
comparison of these data with previous reporting periods are incorporated within the report.
The AHR is prepared and submitted in accordance with Rule 4.05.13 of the Regulations.
Monitoring data compiled for the AHR include the period from 1987 through 1998, the
period that Energy Fuels has operated the mine. Relevant monitoring data collected and
presented in this AHR includes: groundwater quality and levels; diversion flow quantity and
quality; precipitation quantity; and quantity and quality of discharges to streams.
Groundwater
Two grotmdwater wells are monitored at the Raton Creek Mine, identified as the Iuppa Well
and the Refuse Well. Field and laboratory data wllected from the monitor wells are
summarized as described below.
Water quality data for the Iuppa Well and Refuse Well are shown on Tables 1 and 2,
respectively. A review of monitoring data for each well through the period of this report
indicate that the parameters are generally consistent with previous years.
Both wells indicate a higher average level of dissolved solids, hardness, sulfate, magnesium,
calcium, and sodium for the reporting period as compared to the 10-year average. These data
are close to the average values and may be a short-term trend as mentioned in the previous
report. Future monitoring will substantiate the consistency of potential trends. Water quality
in both wells remains within acceptable ranges for material damage criteria.
Well levels for both monitoring wells are summarized on Table 3, and water levels data are
presented graphically Figure 1. A review of water levels data shows stable levels during the
reporting period with the exception of a rapid drop in the Refuse Well level during the 1st
quarter of the year. Water well levels at the end of the reporting period were near the 11-year
average shown on Table 3.
The approved ground water monitoring program adequately monitors potential impacts of
mining on the ground water system. The data collected through the period of this report
indicate that no significant ground water impacts have occurred as a result of mining.
