Mr. David R. Gossett
March 24, 1988
Page Two
The required sampling frequency for the following ground water
monitoring sites was not achieved:
79-61 October sampling not taken
79-1 April sampling not taken
79-2 October sampling not taken
Please explain why the required samples were not taken,
3. According to Table 61(b) flouride is a required parameter for
both ground and surface water quality analyses. The only
revision I could find which addressed a reduction in monitoring
parameters was a minor revision dated September, 25, 1981,
This revision did not request the deletion of flouride from the
monitoring program. If flouride was deleted from the list, of
required parameters, please provide documentation as to when
such approval was given. Based on the cation/anion balance,
flouride does not appear to be a major constituent in either
the ground or surface water on the mine site and can be deleted
from the monitoring program with the submission of a minor
revision.
Surface Water
1, According to the table titled "Hydrologic Monitoring Timetable"
which was submitted to the Division on October 21, 1981 in
response to Stipulation #2 of the approved permit, surface
water monitoring sites will be sampled once during the month of
October, Please explain why the field data indicates that the
surface water monitoring sites were not sampled during
October, If the drainages were dry or frozen, the field
reports should be marked to document the status of the sampling
sites.
2. At several sites the field data shows that a sample was taken
for lab analysis, but the sample report was not submitted or
was illegible. Please check to see that the following analyses
are submitted to the Division.
Site 315 First week in March and week of 5/20
Site 327 Week of 3/11
Site 306 Week of 5/24
Site 305 Week of 3/18
