BANTA, Dlreetor
March 24, 1988
Mr. David R. Gossett
Kerr Coal Company
1 Tabor Center, Suite 2500
1200 - 17th Street
Denver, Colorado 80202
Re: 1987 Marr Strip Annual Hydrologic Report
File No. C-80-006
Dear Mr. Gossett:
The Division has reviewed the Marr Strip Mine 1987 Annual Hydrologic
Report, submitted in compliance with Stipulation R1 of the approved
permit. The following comments are divided into three
sections--ground water, surface water, and soil moisture testing.
Ground Water
From a review of the pernlit text and revisions it is apparent
that there are several Inconsistencies in the permit pertaining
to the hydrologic monitoring program. The permit text
(780-108) states that groundwater wells will be sampled in late
spring and fall, and analyzed for the constituents shown on
Table 61. Table 61(b) titled "Kerr Mine Area Hydrologic
Monitoring Schedule - Water Quality" shows that ground water
monitoring wells will be sampled quarterly for the following
constituents: 504, COg, HCOg, Na, K, Ca, Mg, CI, N, and
N02.
Please revise table 61(b) so that the sampling frequency for
the above listed parameters corresponds to what is outlined in
the permit text.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
